"Dance Cherie Dance" is the first in my dance series mixed media collages. The pose was taken from a photo I have in my research file of my favorite model, Jessica, whose expressive poses lend themselves to work with movement. I thought the figure looked Toulouse-ish, so I put her in front of a shape of the Moulin Rouge entrance. It sparked the idea for my dance series.
My art journey began when I was 29 and took drawing and watercolor lessons from Phyllis Rutigliano, a master watercolorist and teacher, who I am lucky to still have as a close friend and mentor. From there, I went to the Fashion Institute of Technology and received an associate's degree in fashion illustration. After 2 1/2 years of illustrating and designing children's wear, I started my own freelance advertising business while continuing my fine art education and exhibiting. Moving to beautiful Bucks County, PA in 1986 enticed me to do more en plein-air painting in addition to drawing and painting the model. Murals were also a fun way to make a living for awhile. Now, I concentrate on creating portraits: pet, people and places.
